When Christ Jesus met a Samaritan woman at Jacob's well, they had an interesting conversation. Jesus spoke of God as Spirit. They discussed worship, and Jesus said that the time had come when "the true worshippers" would worship God "in spirit and in truth." And he added the startling words "for the Father seeketh such to worship him." John 4:23
The Father seeks the seeker! The yearning to find Truth, God, and to worship God rightly, comes from the Father, God Himself, not from the human mind. The book of Jeremiah says, "This shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts." Jer. 31:33 In a profound sense, the law of God is already within each one's heart, because the true selfhood of each one is the very outcome of God—His expression. As the mist of materiality fades in an individual's thought, the inherent desire to know God becomes more apparent.
Traditional medicine and orthodox theology are not satisfying everyone's quest for health and peace. I remember hearing some years ago a despairing ballad, "Is that all there is?" Well, materiality is not all there is. Thinking people instinctively know that. Sometimes they will begin investigating various religions and philosophies in order to find answers and greater contentment. Science and Health says: "The sharp experiences of belief in the supposititious life of matter, as well as our disappointments and ceaseless woes, turn us like tired children to the arms of divine Love. Then we begin to learn Life in divine Science." Science and Health, p. 322
