When I First encountered Christian Science, I was very confused. I had dropped out of a medical career in the hope of finding something better. I was unemployed and living far from home. I had alienated my parents and was seeing a psychiatrist several times a week. Nothing seemed to happen in my psychiatric sessions, but they did give me hope.
I had always loved God and was meditating daily. Then, unexpectedly, a light began to appear. It was bright, pure, and clear. A few days later, while driving, I found myself pulling over in front of a storefront marked "Christian Science Reading Room." Noticing the words, "Everyone Welcome" on the door, I went in and followed the attendant's advice to read the chapter called "Prayer" in Mary Baker Eddy's book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. Before I could even begin to read, I noticed that the Reading Room was alive with the same light I had been experiencing. I later learned that this spiritual light was Christ. I was overjoyed at my discovery and was filled with relief and gratitude. I had found what I had sought for many years. I was home.
Many years have passed since this initial encounter with Truth. I have joined The Mother Church and have taken Primary class instruction in Christian Science. I gradually separated myself from my previous medical work and found new employment.
