All my life I have been sincerely and deeply grateful for the multitude of blessings that the teachings of Christian Science have brought into my experience. My writing down of some of them is long overdue.
My father, a coal miner who had left school around the age of ten years, was a heavy drinker and smoker. These habits were forsaken completely when my parents began studying Christian Science, and they both joined and served in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. Later, my brothers and sister and I attended a Christian Science Sunday School.
The progress of the family in understanding Christian Science was accompanied by a wonderful good for all of us. My father, alongside his earnest study of Christian Science, also attended evening classes to study English and mathematics. He eventually became works manager of a quarry and stone-processing firm. I was able to maintain good standards throughout my schooling, earned certificates in swimming, and played rugby football for the school team.
