I Had Been Thinking About this statement in Science and Health: "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick." Science and Health, pp. 476–477. One of my reasons for pondering it was to try to understand how Jesus healed instantly. How could I look at others and myself and see this "perfect man"? One of the areas that I see that constantly needs healing is the notion that minorities are intellectually inferior. That's one of the beliefs that would try to divide us in the workplace.
About this same time, I attended a meeting in North Carolina where this was one of the dynamics being played out. It gave me an opportunity to pray to bring healing to the situation. A group of us, about twenty-three people, had been put together for a two-day planning session. The mix consisted of the vice-president, who had pulled us together (she is a white female); her program director, who is a black male and who was filling the role of facilitator I myself, a black female; and the rest of the room, about twenty people, who were white men.
One by one we began to engage in intellectual warfare.
