LETTERS

From the March 2001 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I was very moved by the article "Cared for in difficult times" [last November]. It reminded me of a little experience I had several years ago. One evening I heard my next-door neighbor's little daughter crying. I tried to call out to her through the common wall, telling her that she did not need to cry, but there was no response. A few days later, the girl telephoned and tearfully told me her parents were out and she could not sleep. I asked her if she prayed when she went to bed, and she said yes. So I spoke to her about God's presence and power, and reassured her that His angels were always with her. After we had talked for a while, I wished her good night and we hung up. From that moment on, I never again heard that little girl crying from loneliness.

The article "Cared for in difficult times" brought great comfort to me. Understanding better that God's love for each of us is unconditional and that we all live in His tender embrace delivers me from believing that when things seem difficult I must have done something wrong. The author makes it very clear that, as in Job's experience, we are always loved and cared for, no matter what the circumstances.

The article "Paul: advocate for women" [November] came just as I was beginning Acts in a current read-through of the Bible. The article was most helpful in expanding and uplifting my perspective, not only on what Paul says about women but in other areas of his teachings as well.
