My Strength, My Haven, My Faithful One

From the August 2001 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For Centuries, the Psalms have brought comfort and healing to people of many faiths. A new anthology, Healing of Soul, Healing of Body: Spiritual Leaders Unfold the Strength & Solace in Psalms, edited by Rabbi Simkha Y. Weintraub, offers short essays by rabbis on ten different "healing" psalms.

On the previous page, we reprinted several verses from Psalm 59 as translated by Rabbi Weintraub directly from the Hebrew. Below is an excerpt from a chapter in the book, commenting on Psalm 59

This very personal psalm contains the cries of someone searching for help in the face of life-threatening danger, beginning with a plea in despair and ending with a song of praise and thanksgiving. It moves from terror to serenity in a threefold structure telescoped into a mere 18 lines.
