LIGHT AND LIFE— 2002 ANNUAL MEETING & CONFERENCE

From the August 2002 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Annual Meeting of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, convened on Monday morning, June 3, 2002, at 10 a.m. The meeting, which took place in the Extension of The Mother Church, was filled to capacity, with overflow audiences filling both the Original Mother Church and the auditorium of the John B. Hynes Memorial Convention Center. Outgoing Church President Christiane West Little opened the meeting.

Good morning! And welcome to the 2002 Annual Meeting of The Mother Church. Welcome to everyone here in the Extension of The Mother Church, in the Original Mother Church, in the Hynes Auditorium, and to all who are participating from around the world via the Internet broadcast of this meeting.

With so many languages represented here today, it would be too long to welcome you in all of them! So in the language of Spirit, that is from the heart and to the heart, welcome everyone! We're deeply grateful that so many members of our worldwide family could come together at one time—to pray together, to rejoice together, and to look ahead together. I'll begin by reading from the Bible and from the writing of Mary Baker Eddy.
