First-Time Readers

From the August 2002 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Before finding Science and Health in 1992, I was a medical nurse. I was practicing Zen Buddhism, and was struggling with depression and suicidal tendencies. I did not have a lot of hope. A colleague recommended Science and Health to me, and I purchased it at a Christian Science Reading Room. As I began reading, something deep inside told me this was the truth. My depression and suicidal tendencies vanished. Mary Baker Eddy's persistence has impressed me greatly. She never lost hope. Now I am a Christian Science nurse.

I Was Raised in Japan, where I was nurtured in Buddhist and Shinto tradition. Although I was not a Christian, I went to Catholic school for 14 years. In 1993, after living in the US for some time, I attended a Christian Science service to hear a friend sing "Amazing Grace." That is when I first became familiar with Science and Health. I've had many healings, and am involved in many community activities, sharing the ideas from Science and Health with my friends and my patients as an advertising Christian Science practitioner in The Christian Science Journal. I've shared the book both in English and in Japanese with many people, including another speaker you will hear from soon.
