Today's Church: Making a Difference

Speaking to the hungry heart in India

From the April 2003 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"My whole concept of church was renewed and renovated. It's because of what I've been learning about Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures and about its author, Mary Baker Eddy."

The voice on the other end of the phone sounds far away and is occasionally accented by bits of crackling and static, but nothing can mask Neera Kapur's enthusiasm for Sci- ence and Health and the role it has played in reshaping her concept of Church.

It all started when Neera attended a conference about Science and Health in Heidelberg, Germany. "Before the conference, I think I had a very limited view of Church," Neera remarks. "I certainly saw it as 'the structure of Truth and Love,' Science and Health, p. 583 . as Mrs. Eddy defines it in Science and Health. But my view was narrow in the sense that it specifically embraced the church family—the members of the church, the work we did as a church, and things like that."
