Several months after I thought I had completed menopause, I began to experience significant sweating all over my body, along with periods of extreme heat and an inability to focus on my surroundings. These symptoms alarmed me, especially because I didn't know what was going on. I began to pray about the situation. But, as a single mother working two jobs and taking three college classes, I was distracted by my busy schedule. And because it had been such a long time since my menstrual cycle had ended, I didn't associate these symptoms with menopause. So, although I prayed with the help of a number of different Christian Science practitioners over the course of several months, the problem continued.
Then, five weeks before my classes were due to end, I was working on a research paper in the library when I became so light-headed that it frightened me. Shortly afterward, an acquaintance mentioned that light-headedness can be one of the symptoms of menopause. At this point, I realized that, even though the school term was almost over, what I needed more than anything was healing. I decided to drop my studies and focus on being healed.
I wasn't at the mercy of hormones or an aging body.
