When a gopher bit my finger

From the May 2003 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Do you like animals? I do. We have many pets at my house. We have a cat, a dog, some fish, and my pet rat, Fasty. I like having so many pets because I think animals are fun.

One day, I was playing tag with my friend Alex in his backyard. While we were running around, I saw Alex's cat pawing a gopher by the fence to the yard. I felt sorry for the gopher and wanted to save it from that big cat.

So I tried to pick it up. But when I did, it bit my finger. And it wouldn't let go. I tried to shake it off, but it held on tight. I panicked. My finger hurt a lot. I shook the gopher furiously until it finally let go and went flying over the fence and ran away. Not only did my finger hurt, but it was bleeding, too. I started to cry.
