This is the final installment of a three-part serial about the "sometimes you're up, sometimes you're down ... but you're always advancing" spiritual journey of Julie Amendola of Arlington, Texas. (See the May and June 2003 issues of the Journal for previous installments.)
In a nutshell, Julie is an occupational therapist and certified hand therapist. Her study of Science and Health, which she received from one of her patients at her Fort Worth, Texas, clinic in 1996, changed her life. It brought healing to her hand, which she badly damaged in a horseback riding accident the following year. It also brought soul-searching questions. What, for instance, would learning about her 100 percent spiritual nature (as God's image and likeness) mean for her 22-year-long health-care career?
Julie spent the next four years in limbo, trying to get a grip on her shaky personal and professional life. Then a ray of light broke through the confusion. She attended the 2001 Harvard-sponsored Spirituality & Healing in Medicine conference. She revamped her clinic's mental atmosphere, and patients soon found more than just their hands on the mend.
