THE GRAY SKIES OVER BOSTON THREATENED RAIN, but nothing could dampen the warm atmosphere that permeated the Christian Science Plaza on June 6, 2005. Christian Scientists came from around the world to The First Church of Christ, Scientist, to hear reports, share stories, and join hearts in an intimate, family-style celebration of the Church's 110th Annual Meeting.
The day's program began when the Church's incoming President, Heloísa Rivas, opened the meeting. "This meeting is going to be a community conversation, a dialogue, with those gathered here," she began, "and also with our global family of friends joining us via the Internet." Following a hymn and silent prayer by the congregation, Heloísa announced the names of the officers of The Mother Church for the coming year: Pastor Emeritus: Mary Baker Eddy; The Christian Science Board of Directors: J. Thomas Black, Walter D. Jones, Nathan A. Talbot, Mary Metzner Trammell, and M. Victor Westberg; Clerk: Nathan A. Talbot; Treasurer: J. Edward Odegaard; First Reader: Lyle Young; Second Reader: Suzanne Cowin.
Heloísa then asked the outgoing President, Cynthia Neely, to stand, and on behalf of the entire Mother Church, she thanked Cindy for her outstanding bridge-building work with the Boston community over the past year.
