FOR MANY YEARS, I've felt the safety and support that come from the desire to be, as the Bible says, "about my Father's business," and this has certainly included involvement in church activities.
A recent incident vividly brought this fact home to me. While trimming one of the Sago palm bushes in our yard, I was suddenly poked in the eye by the needlelike prong of one of the branches. The pain was intense, and at first, several concerns raced through my mind. When my wife and I came to California from the Midwest, some of our new friends had warned us about circumstances where contact with desert plants could be harmful. I thought of the possible ramifications of this injury, especially since the only way I could avoid pain was to keep my eye closed.
I was also dismayed at the thought that I might have to miss the annual meeting sponsored by the Christian Science Committee on Publication, which I was very much looking forward to and planning to attend the next day.
