GLIMPSES OF GRACE

THE INNER ARCHITECT

From the January 2008 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My work as an architect gives me the opportunity to consider the spiritual aspect of design. Not only the design of a building, but also the design of living!

The development of a building starts with the needs and dreams of an individual client and then folds in many other factors—including the site, construction and zoning regulations, structural engineering, costs, and schedules. These factors must come together as a perfect coincidence if you hope to make a good building. But most of all, of course, you also need—creativity.

Throughout the process of realizing a building or a more complex project, my inner architect—my creative spirit—seeks expression. It isn't always easy to find the space or freedom from limitations (money, time, various influences) for creative expression. But I've learned that creative moments are always at hand. Why? Because the divine Spirit (God), the source of my inspiration and opportunity, sparks me to see where and how to be creative.
