YEARS AGO, While raising three small children, I began having difficulty swallowing. So much so, I found it necessary to switch to a diet of only baby food, and I rapidly lost weight. At the time, I was an at-home mother, and this difficulty affected my ability to take care of my children.
The symptoms deeply troubled my husband. Although he had witnessed many healings in our family through prayer, he himself did not practice Christian Science. After a few weeks, he asked me to consult a medical doctor. I felt that I should respect his feelings, and I made an appointment with a doctor who knew my husband, just to set his mind at ease, knowing that I had nothing to fear by taking this step—a step I wouldn't have taken if my husband had not been so concerned.
At one point, I also called a Christian Science practitioner who was new in my area. I'd never met him before, but he came to my house. We talked, and since this was many years ago, all I remember is that I had no fear after he left. I was completely filled with joy and the reassurance that God was caring for me. I had learned through Christian Science that when fear leaves you—the fear of disease or of what you think you have—healing follows. In this case, I immediately felt that I had been healed.
