20-SOMETHING

NATURAL TO TRUST

From the April 2008 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I Haven't Always Found It Easy To learn that I don't have to use human will to make my life turn out right. However, especially in the last few years, I've discovered that God's will is always good and dependable, whereas human will a lot of times takes me in the wrong direction. I've actually gotten to the point now where it feels natural to trust God to guide me and provide for me. And my life feels so much freer!

I remember when I was growing up being told by family during difficult or confusing times, "God has a good plan for you. You can trust Him." The basis for my family's upbeat outlook was the Bible verse, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths" (Prov. 3:5). I used to think, Hmmm ... acknowledge God in all my ways? You have no idea what I'm feeling! How can you tell me to trust?

As I've said, that wasn't an easy lesson.
