NO RACIAL DIVIDE

From the August 2009 issue of The Christian Science Journal

SOME YEARS AGO I WORKED IN HARARE, ZIMBABWE, during a period of racial hostility that led to armed conflict in that country. A simple experience showed me that we never need be deprived of an awareness of God's ever-present love.

My office overlooked one of the city's main hospitals. From my window, I could see helicopters landing on the hospital's helipad, bringing in casualties from the conflict areas.

On one occasion, after having prayed about the conflict, I felt a great sense of calm. However, I was soon distressed to see two ambulances rushing to the helipad. I struggled to regain the peace I'd felt.
