Always safe with God

From the January 2011 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In today’s world, the quest for true security and safety is in full force. Although people may invest their money in hiring bodyguards, installing security systems, or building houses with barriers, people still feel insecure.

I have found that we can find true security by turning to God. Because God fills all places, and His love is always with us no matter where we are, we can know that His tender presence is there to secure us, to protect from any harm or evil. We don’t have to be afraid because we have the freedom as the children of God to go wherever we want—to any town or country—“for in him we live, and move, and have our being” (Acts 17:28).

Mary Baker Eddy wrote: “Evil has no reality. It is neither person, place, nor thing, but simply a belief, an illusion of material sense,” (Science and Healthp. 71). Mrs. Eddy taught her students that they should be alert to animal magnetism, to any hypnotic mental influence that tries to convince us that there is any other power apart from God. When thinking about security and safety, there is the false suggestion that there are many minds and that there are some good people and some bad people in the world. Some also might believe that a specific place is dangerous and that we should be careful or avoid being there for our own protection.
