Have you ever been about to do something really exciting for the first time ever, and suddenly the wind was taken out of your sails?

Some years ago, I was to compete in my first martial arts tournament. Upon entering the venue, amongst a bustling crowd, I found my sensei (instructor) leaving. The contests had not even begun. I asked why he was going home. He said his equipment bag had been stolen and he was so upset he had no desire to stay. 

Some of the students in our dojo (school of martial arts), like me, were competing for the first time, and needed the experienced guidance that our instructor would provide.
