Have you ever wondered if the opportunity to bless humanity in a meaningful way has passed you by, and that now it’s too late? I know I have. But I find great comfort in the fact that each one of us is always blessed to be a blessing.
Some years ago I attended a Bible seminar sponsored by an organization whose underlying theme was, “Blessed to be a blessing,” based on Genesis 12:1, 2, which reads: “Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.”
Abram, later known as Abraham, was asked to leave his extended family and established home to go to a land that God would show him—to be blessed to be a blessing. There’s no evidence that Abraham questioned God or felt doubts about God’s directing. There’s no indication that Abraham and his wife, Sarah, argued about what was to take place. They simply put themselves in a position to receive God’s goodness by being willing to bless others.
