From the Christian Science Board of Directors

From the December 2011 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Dear Fellow Members and Friends,

Words simply can’t express our gratitude for the contribution our colleague J. Thomas Black, C.S.B., has made over the years to the Christian Science movement. So, as we accept his resignation as a member of our Board, we want to review with you some of his service to this Church, and to thank him from our hearts for the nearly seven years he has given to its Board of Directors.

In addition to his long career as a Christian Science practitioner and teacher, Tom has filled many roles on behalf of the movement, including those of Committee on Publication for Michigan, Trustee of The Christian Science Publishing Society, President of The Mother Church, First Reader of The Mother Church, teacher of the Normal class for new teachers of Christian Science, and member of the Board of Education. He also writes extensively for the Christian Science periodicals. To all these assignments, he’s brought depth of vision, courage of conviction, candor and humility, keen wit, unending love for the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, as well as intimate knowledge of and respect for the Church Manual.
