Peace on earth? It’s coming! No doubt about it. The spiritual era with its ultimate promise of universal peace and harmony is advancing. As it has been throughout the ages. Long before the angels heralded the coming of the promised Messiah, the Prince of Peace. Even before Abraham who “sojourned in the land of promise” and “looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God” (Heb. 11:9, 10).
The birth of Jesus Christ, his unparalleled mission of healing and teaching, his resurrection from the grave, and his ultimate ascension, left humanity with an even fuller promise of universal peace on earth yet to come. Nearly two millennia later, Mary Baker Eddy discovered Christian Science, which includes the understanding and proof of the promised Comforter always with us. The successful practice of Christian healing following that discovery gave the world fresh hope, fresh promise of not just individual but universal harmony that, as Mrs. Eddy clearly states in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, “cannot be lost nor remain forever unseen” (p. 208).
So what about us? Do we just hope and wait for this ultimate peace and harmony, or is there something we can be doing? Jim Spencer, in his article “How Do We ‘Prepare’ for Universal Harmony?” (p. 26), shares insights on how each one of us can be actively participating in the advancing spiritual era so full of hope and promise for all humanity.
