Letters

From the December 2011 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Thank you for printing in the October issue the question from a high school student who asked, “Why do people rely on God/religion less in general than they did in the past?”

If I may, I would like to point out that most of the educational systems of today rely on God and religion less than they did in the past, as well. Our current methods of matter-based education, which wittingly or unwittingly attempt to teach that God and Spirit are of no real importance, are in obvious contradiction to what the Bible and Science and Health teach.

Science and Health instructs parents: “The entire education of children should be such as to form habits of obedience to the moral and spiritual law, with which the child can meet and master the belief in so-called physical laws, a belief which breeds disease” (p. 62).
