All needs met

From the January 2012 issue of The Christian Science Journal

God knows our need, and He has shown me this on many occasions.

One evening, I searched everywhere in my home for something I needed in my work. It was getting late, and by now I was asking God to help me. Still no success. I decided I shouldn’t spend any more time looking, and I started talking out loud to God, reminding Him (of all things!) that my work is to serve Him. I said, “Father, You know everything. You know my need and that I honestly want to do everything I can to serve You, dear Father. It’s Your turn. Tell me what it is that I need to know!”

I was so grateful that I finally had the humility to listen. His answer had nothing to do with what I was looking for. The message I heard was, “You will never again allow your feelings to be hurt.” God knew that my need was to be peaceful and without personal sense to torment me. I saw then how truly inconsequential such memories are. I’d never realized how important it was to let them go. God’s love is so big, and one way it comes through is correcting what isn’t the best in our character.
