Ascension, one step at a time

From the November 2012 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Ascension. I love that word. Simply saying it, one can feel its definition. Ascent, rising upward, lifting, soaring, escalating. We can think of many examples of ascension, but for Christians the word is most strongly associated with Jesus’ ascension from the material world following his crucifixion.

It’s safe to say that most of us won’t experience ascension in the same way Jesus did. However, by following his example and through the understanding and constant application of his teachings, we can and should demonstrate ascension—as in ascending thought—in very practical and basic ways in our daily lives.

Christ Jesus’ countless examples in the Bible, as well as the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, provide us with the spiritual tools needed to resolve and heal every problem we are faced with—be it physical, emotional, financial, relationship, or otherwise. And with every successful outcome, we ascend to a higher spiritual understanding of our immortal nature and identity.
