Some healings in Christian Science call for persistent trust, others involve humble reformation, while many come simply and quickly. Recently I’ve been thinking about some healings that came rapidly, and I’d like to share them.
One night last year while playing basketball, I collided with another player, fell awkwardly to the gym floor, and injured my knee. After a painful night, I found that I could not stand up in the morning and asked my wife if she could borrow some crutches. But then I heard myself saying, “No, what I need is the help of a Christian Science practitioner.” One was contacted, and she agreed to pray with me.
Although I had been praying during the night, I began to protest more fervently against this whole picture of having fallen outside of God’s care. For about an hour I lay very still, affirming my unchanging status as God-supplied and God-defined.
