I have your back

From the March 2012 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Has anyone ever told you, “Don’t worry—I have your back”? There’s a sense of guardianship in those words—a kind of knowing, that no matter what, someone is guiding your footsteps and keeping you safe from unforeseen harm.

How can we know that God has our back? The following experience illustrates the idea that we’re cared for at all times and in all circumstances big or small.

I was invited to attend an event in a distant city, where I was expected to show up dressed appropriately and not in my more casual clothes. I carefully packed my designated outfit in the bag that I was planning to check at the airport. On the morning of my departure, I heard a nearly audible voice tell me to take my designated outfit out of my checked bag and put it in my carry-on bag. Surprised, but obedient to this strong command, I moved my outfit and proceeded to the airport.
