An invitation

From the November 2014 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Presumably, you are reading this issue of the Journal because you find its contents helpful—helpful in a deeply spiritual way. Hopefully you find that it lifts thought above the common outlook of materialism to the realities of God and His true, spiritual creation—a creation which we all are part of and which God has from eternity pronounced “very good” (Genesis 1:31).

Mary Baker Eddy knew how helpful her periodicals were and should be. At one time she wrote: “The systematized centres of Christian Science are life-giving fountains of truth. Our churches, The Christian Science Journal, and the Christian Science Quarterly, are prolific sources of spiritual power whose intellectual, moral, and spiritual animus is felt throughout the land. Our Publishing Society, and our Sunday Lessons, are of inestimable value to all seekers after Truth” (Miscellaneous Writings 1883–1896, pp. 113–114).

This was written before Mrs. Eddy had established the Christian Science Sentinel and The Herald of Christian Science. But they, along with the Journal, were also established to be “life-giving fountains of truth.”
