Linda Kohler, a Christian Science nurse and the outgoing President of The Mother Church, opened the meeting, held on Sunday, June 7, in The Mother Church Extension. “What we’re here to think about this afternoon together is giving our heart to the Cause of Truth,” she said. “What does that look like? What does that require of us? We’ve invited some folks to share their thoughts about this, some people who are really walking the talk, and thinking and praying deeply about this.”

“When I think about the deep commitment that motivates people to give their hearts to a cause, I think of Christ Jesus’ walk to Emmaus with two of his followers,” Christian Science practitioner Kevin Ness told listeners. “After Jesus left them, they commented, ‘Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?’ (Luke 24:32).
