During one of our family’s regular trips to the dentist for cleanings, the dentist said that updated X-rays needed to be taken of my daughter’s mouth—she was eight at the time. The X-rays showed there wasn’t enough room in her mouth for new teeth to come in. The dentist said there could be several potential overlaps in the front of her mouth, which would require braces to fix. He added that it appeared her new molars were coming in sideways.
He suggested taking the X-rays to an orthodontist. After a few such requests, I did. The orthodontist’s recommendation was to give things time and come back in about six months for a reevaluation. Meanwhile, my husband started praying with us, and we called a Christian Science practitioner to give our daughter Christian Science treatment.
We did not go back to the orthodontist because we wanted to continue to pray about the condition, to work on it spiritually. We did, however, continue to follow a normal routine of cleanings with the dentist, and the dentist never made any more requests for us to return to the orthodontist.
