I attended a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, from age two. Through the years, I also enjoyed visiting churches of other denominations. I had times of doubt about Christian Science because I didn’t totally accept or understand all of its teachings. But I didn’t move away from it altogether.
In the 1970s, while ice skating with my young daughter, I tripped and began to fall. Between the realization that I was falling and the time I hit the ice, I prayed to know there were no accidents in divine Mind. I knew all was harmonious and I was held in Mind’s harmony. Because I was God’s spiritual idea, harmony was my divine right. When I landed, it was as if I were falling on a cloud—soft, with no pain or discomfort.
Then in 1991, a greater spiritual awakening occurred. I was applying for a job at a community college library in California. A physical exam was required, the results of which showed a small growth that, from a medical standpoint, could indicate a problem, and it frightened me.
