Seven years ago I was serving as First Reader in my branch Church of Christ, Scientist. One Sunday, as I was in the middle of conducting the church service, I suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed on the floor.
My wife, Mary, was in the congregation. She immediately began praying for me, giving me Christian Science treatment, and she came up to the podium to assist me and help me off the platform, though I was still unconscious. The church members were alert and supportive. A previous First Reader came up to the podium and continued with the service.
Meanwhile, Mary and I were in the First Reader’s room. I know she prayed clearly and effectively to realize only the presence of divine Life; there is no absence of it. I found myself gradually coming back to consciousness, and soon I was able to begin praying for myself, too. By the time the church service finished, I was thinking reasonably clearly again, and about a half-hour later we went home.
