Our oneness with God

From the May 2016 issue of The Christian Science Journal

There are people who feel very close to God. They believe God looks after them and that they can rely on His care. The Bible promotes such a deeply rooted outlook, and many have seen proof of it in their lives.

The idea that we are one with God goes even deeper spiritually, to the core of our relationship to God, and to the reason He is close to us. Christ Jesus both taught and showed us our oneness with God, in order to strip away the belief of separation that underlies human sin and suffering. The results of the truth that Jesus taught were the countless healings, the restoration to wholeness and health of those who were crippled or saddled with disease, seemingly outside of God’s help.

In the Christian Science textbook, Mary Baker Eddy writes: “As a drop of water is one with the ocean, a ray of light one with the sun, even so God and man, Father and son, are one in being. The Scripture reads: ‘For in Him we live, and move, and have our being’ ” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 361).
