Trusting God: a childhood healing

From the May 2016 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Adapted for the Journal, this was originally written as a testimony in German, and first appeared in the February 2016 Portuguese, Spanish, French, and German editions of The Herald of Christian Science.

Christian Science opens to us the door to understanding verse 27 in the first chapter of Genesis: “God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” It explains that man is God’s idea—the spiritual image, or reflection, of God, Spirit.

Many decades ago, this knowledge helped me experience a wonderful healing. I was fairly new to Christian Science, and I had only just begun attending a Christian Science Sunday School, where I learned that I was the loved child of God. The concept that man is God’s idea and expresses spiritual qualities was wonderful to me. I was a teenager, and one beautiful winter day my class at the school I attended took a field trip to a nearby mountain. Some students had brought their skis, and others had brought sleds. After reaching the top of one of the slopes, those of us who had brought sleds started to race down. Suddenly, we saw that the slope ended at a paved road.

The concept that man is God’s idea and expresses spiritual qualities was wonderful to me.
