I found out about the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy through a niece. She told me it had been written by a lady who healed as Christ Jesus taught, and I immediately wanted to buy it. She gave me the contact information for a Christian Science Reading Room. When I called to find out about the book, I was invited to attend a Christian Science lecture the following week. After listening to the lecture, I felt so enthusiastic that I returned home eagerly looking forward to reading Science and Health.
At that time, I was suffering from many diseases and took many pills. I was suffering from hypothyroidism (a condition for which it was thought I would have to take medicine for life), as well as high blood pressure, which gave me effusions in my eyes that I sought treatment for. I also suffered from bronchial asthma and dermatitis, and I had two knitted vertebrae in my spinal column, problems with my knees, and a complication with my bladder. These diseases prevented me from doing my chores at home and other activities.
As I began to read Science and Health and to attend the church services at a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, I realized this was what I had been looking for.
