What is God, exactly? This is a question that I’d never had a completely satisfying answer to—until a few years ago.
In the autumn of 2013, for no apparent reason, one of my knees became swollen and couldn’t bend. This caused great pain and difficulty when I was walking, and it dramatically affected my job, my family life, and my spiritual confidence. It was also the catalyst for a lot of spiritual digging.
When the problem appeared, I began to pray about it with the expectation of healing, which as a student of Christian Science is the approach I’ve taken to problems for my whole life. I wanted to gain a better understanding of myself as spiritual. I endeavored to exchange the false concept of life as being “trapped” in a physical body for the true concept of divine Spirit, which is eternal Life, and man as the reflection of divine Spirit—and the true body as constituting the embodiment of the indestructible qualities of God. I prayed for two days to see this more clearly, but I began to feel discouraged.
