My microwave oven is situated above my head, so when I was making oatmeal one morning, I couldn’t see that the oatmeal had boiled over the bowl it was in. As I was taking it out of the oven, not only did the piping hot cereal touch my hand, but the bowl tipped, and more of it spilled on my hand. Ouch! That really hurt.
I’d had several quick healings of kitchen burns through prayer in Christian Science, so I wasn’t afraid. I started praying by remembering spiritual ideas that had helped me in the past. But then a pesky thought came that my healing could be delayed because of a situation that had upset me earlier. However, an angel thought reassured me that God is good and He loves me. Would God make me wait for healing until I’d dealt with the other problem? That didn’t make sense. God’s will is to save me, not punish me.
God is always imparting good to His spiritual creation. I saw that I didn’t need to wait to experience good; I just needed to accept the truth that God meets all human needs. So with that, I began to refocus my prayer, taking one situation at a time. I always find comfort in a statement that Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer of Christian Science, makes in her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: “Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God’s unerring direction and thus bring out harmony.
