Life’s harmonious music

From the March 2020 issue of The Christian Science Journal

As a Christian Science nurse, I sometimes encounter challenging cases. But I am always grateful for the immense spiritual growth that takes place in my own thinking while I’m helping another. Mary Baker Eddy gives us this sweet promise: “Nothing can interfere with the harmony of being nor end the existence of man in Science” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 427).

After one challenging case, I went to the piano and wrote an instrumental song. Filling the room with music has always been a sweet reminder to me that harmony is all around us, and it is certainly felt when we know and feel God’s presence.

Sometime after this experience, I was invited to play the piano at a Christian Science nursing facility function. I decided I would share this new song with my fellow Christian Science nurses. After I played the song, a woman approached me with tears in her eyes. She said that she could hear the challenging times I was describing through my music—but the harmony, rhythm, and melody were still there, and she said how much that helped her.
