Lessons from a GPS

I was very excited when our family bought a car with a GPS in it. Soon after our purchase, we drove to a familiar city about two hours away. For fun I entered the address of our destination into the GPS, but the voice on it kept instructing us to get off at the next exit, which we knew was incorrect.

We had no idea how to turn off the GPS, so we had to listen to this instruction for almost an hour. Later we learned that it had been programmed to avoid highways, and once we unclicked that option and understood how to program it, we were able to use the GPS intelligently.

That experience stayed with me and revealed to me some deeper thoughts:
