I started wearing glasses in middle school because I was diagnosed with astigmatism. After graduating from college, I took Christian Science class instruction, which gave me a clearer understanding of man as God’s perfect spiritual reflection, and I realized I needed to challenge a limited, material view of eyesight as something that can be lost or distorted.
The Bible tells us, “God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good” (Genesis 1:31). This meant to me that man expresses the goodness of his Maker in every detail, including flawless vision.
My thought was being lifted up and spiritualized through active membership in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. I noticed I was able to see the selected hymn numbers in front of the church auditorium while sitting in the rear portico, without glasses.
