I rejoice for the most wonderful Christmas gift I could have asked for—the freedom to walk freely. Last year, while I was helping a friend about ten days before Christmas, I found it painful to walk. My schedule for the week was packed. There was no time for putting my feet up and taking it easy. In order to keep up, I felt that I should pray while in motion. I asked a Christian Science practitioner to pray with me.
Taking one day at a time, I was able to fulfill every obligation I needed to, from cooking and cleaning to entertaining and special events, even watching my neighbor’s dogs. I leaned on God and my grandson’s arm when a long walk was required. The discomfort in my leg required me to slow down and not squander precious steps, but I saw this as an opportunity to express greater humility and obedience to God.
Experiencing joy sped the progress of my healing. I had the privilege of preparing the readings and conducting the Wednesday testimony meeting at our branch Church of Christ, Scientist, just before Christmas. This was a holy experience, and it deepened my understanding of the meaning of the coming of Christ.
