Several years ago, I awoke one morning feeling very strange and realized that one side of my body was paralyzed. However, I knew from past experience that I could be healed through prayer.
The day before, I had been reading a testimony in the Christian Science Sentinel where a man described how he had prayed when he had been electrocuted during a welding accident and found himself unable to move or speak. He turned to God in thought and was gradually able to think through each word of “the scientific statement of being” from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. It begins: “There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all” (p. 468).
Trusting God, he soon found that he could move one finger, then another, and so on, until he gained complete freedom and was able to finish the welding job (see Steven Berrie, “Electrocution overcome through prayer and gratitude,” March 6, 2000).
