When our son was in grade school, he had periods of dry coughing. These instances came at different times of the year and for no apparent reason, as he seemed to be in perfect health otherwise. He was active in sports, and he never coughed when he was playing.
Though our son didn’t appear to mind the cough, my wife and I turned to God in prayer to seek healing. We called a Christian Science practitioner, who agreed to pray with us for our son.
At one point the practitioner commented that one of the ideas she had been led to pray about was the need for confidence. This rang a bell, because our son was very timid and shy. Even at nine years old, he was reluctant to talk to people he didn’t know well, and would just stare at the ground rather than engage in conversation. We knew better than to think that timidity or shyness was part of his true nature, and were grateful for the opportunity to work more deeply with the thought that he was God’s able, confident child.
