Shared Reflections

Getting it right

From the November 2014 issue of The Christian Science Journal

This audio lecture was a conversation between Chet Manchester, Co-Manager of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship, and Deborah Huebsch, a practitioner and teacher of Christian Science who lives in San Juan Capistrano, California. Deborah has also been a Christian Science lecturer.

Listeners will be a little curious about your background. Did you grow up with Christian Science?

I did not. I actually found Christian Science when I was in college and in desperate straits. The book was handed to me, and I said, “Oh yeah, right! I don’t need religion.” I started reading it—Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy—because I wanted to prove that it was a crutch. There wasn’t anything to it—there was nothing to religion. I had become an agnostic, bordering on atheist, by then, but I started reading the book and it transformed my life.
