One thing that stood uppermost in Jesus' thought was the conviction that he was sent of God—that he was divinely appointed—and thus had the authority of God Himself for proclaiming the divinity of his mission. What a tensely dramatic moment was that when, after returning to Galilee from the wilderness where he had rejected the temptations of the devil, he entered the synagogue at Nazareth! In silent awe those present heard the blessed Master read from the book of the prophet Esaias these words ( Luke 4:18,19 ): "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
