In the seventeenth chapter of Matthew we read that Jesus healed the epileptic boy after his disciples had failed in their efforts to do so. The disciples did not understand why they had been unsuccessful, and they asked Jesus privately to explain their failure.

When asked by King Darius if his God had saved him in the lions' den, Daniel replied (6:22), "My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me. " This quality of innocency which saved Daniel from being harmed by the beasts belongs to the true selfhood of each one of us.

" When mortal man blends his thoughts of existence with the spiritual and works only as God works, he will no longer grope in the dark and cling to earth because he has not tasted heaven. " So writes Mrs.

As a traveler prayerfully meditated upon opportunities for spiritual growth afforded by journeying from place to place, the following lines from the Christian Science Hymnal came slowly to her thought (No. 388): When like a stranger on our sphere The lowly Jesus sojourned here, Where'er he went affliction fled, The sick were healed, the hungry fed.

"This is the way to do it!" "But my way is better!" What is the argument about? A business partnership? Disciplining the children? Decorating the church? Deciding a political issue? Many a crisis in human relations can be whittled down to no more than this basic claim: "My way is the only way. " The longing to be honored and given credit for what one does, the desire for power over others, the determination to resist any new knowledge—all these emotions often pretend to be virtues.
