A MAN went to a Wednesday evening testimony meeting in a small Christian Science church. There were only a handful of people present; and so when the time for testimonies arrived, the man was surprised to hear the First Reader say that all testimonies would be limited to three minutes. He was even more surprised when testimonies, one after another, filled the rest of the hour-long service. And they were good ones.
Here was a First Reader whose concept of a church service was evidently not blurred by the size of the congregation. And the congregation did their part, for they rose to the occasion. How could anyone help but be inspired at such a meeting?
In Christian Science, we learn that inspired church services result from the members' understanding of the spiritual idea of "Church," which Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, defines in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 583) as follows:
