IN Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 259): "In divine Science, man is the true image of God. The divine nature was best expressed in Christ Jesus, who threw upon mortals the truer reflection of God and lifted their lives higher than their poor thought-models would allow,— thoughts which presented man as fallen, sick, sinning, and dying. The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea,—perfect God and perfect man,—as the basis of thought and demonstration."
The revelation that, as the image and likeness of God, man has a perfect spiritual identity is one of the important teachings of Christian Science. Mrs. Eddy's discovery brought to mankind not only the comforting assurance that there is a loving Father-Mother, God, who cares unceasingly for all His children, but also a demonstrable, practical religion.
Christian Science enables us to obey intelligently the Master's injunction, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself" (Matt. 22:39). His beneficent activity was an illustration of how this command may be practically observed in daily life. Only as we understand aright our own nature as a child of God can we see our fellowmen as God created them and as Jesus beheld them.
