A Young man who had studied the Bible in an orthodox Sunday School was inclined to scoff at the title of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, when it was first called to his attention. What need, he asked, was there for a key to the Bible? Had not his parents and grandparents read it regularly and led good Christian lives in accordance with its precepts? Had not the Psalms comforted thousands throughout the ages, and had not the teachings of Jesus come down through the centuries with a luster that time could not dim? He knew the answer was "Yes.

We read in the twelfth chapter of Ecclesiastes what seems to be the summary of the observations of the Preacher when he says ( verse 13 ): "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. " Observations on wisdom, folly, and so forth had been followed by admonitions, for we read (verse 9), "He gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.

Expectation of good is a most desirable and helpful state of mind for the promotion of happiness and well-being. Those who, through Christian Science, are spiritually equipped to maintain a calm and steadfast expectation of good are assured that the seeming discords and sufferings of mortal existence are unreal and therefore terminable.

In the second book of Kings is recorded an occasion when Elisha, the prophet, and his servant found themselves in a city surrounded by the horses and chariots of the king of Syria. Elisha was undisturbed by the situation confronting him, comprehending through spiritual sense the encompassing angels of God's presence, the spiritual truths which bring deliverance in every age.

In accord with provisions made by Mary Baker Eddy, Wednesday testimony meetings held in Christian Science churches and societies throughout the world always include a period for the giving of "experiences, testimonies, and remarks on Christian Science" (Manual of The Mother Church, p. 122 ).

What a glorious opportunity students of Christian Science have to prove that the evidence of Spirit is real, and the evidence of material sense unreal. Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" ( p.

Jesus ' awareness of the Christ within, as exemplified by his life of love, wisdom, and victory over death, opened the way of liberation to the captives of false belief. He recognized the nothingness of ignorance and bondage.

Escape from evil is the theme of the Bible. Christian Science, which is based upon the Scriptures, teaches that the scientific way to escape evil is through the demonstrable understanding of the allness of God and the consequent total unreality of evil.

Newly elected Readers in The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, and in its branches throughout the world, as well as Readers who have had considerable experience, may recall as they prepare their work and go to the platform that they are representing an experienced and duly ordained pastor who will, through their spiritual understanding and correct reading, preach the sermon. Under the heading "The Christian Science Pastor," in Article XIV, Section 1, of the Manual of The Mother Church, we read: "I, Mary Baker Eddy, ordain the Bible, and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Pastor over The Mother Church,—The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass.

The Church of Christ, Scientist, was formed to restore primitive Christian healing to the world, the healing which is the evidence of God's love for His children. Its teaching is based upon the words and works of the Master, Christ Jesus.
